Today it was announced courtesy of TSN’s own Bob McKenzie that Danny O’Regan signed a two year ELC deal. O’Regan was a fifth round pick in 2012 drafted by the San Jose Sharks, his time at Boston University could be described only as a rousing success.
Here is his stat line:
Save for his sophomore season, he played at either a point per game pace or just below it throughout his entire college career. It is a stat line that bodes well for Sharks fans who could be looking at a good depth scorer. He will undoubtedly start with the Barracuda but if his time in the NCAA is any indication, he could move up to the NHL in short order.
O’Regan is undersized at 5’10 but with the way the league is heading I wouldn’t be too worried about a scoring forward finding his place in the league.

One year after scoring the double-overtime winner in the Beanpot final, the Boston University senior was forced to see things from the other side earlier in the week, when BU lost the Beanpot finale to rival Boston College 1-0 in overtime. O’Regan has performed well this year, scoring 32 points in 28 games and has continued to show a strong work ethic and nose for slipping into quiet areas in the offensive zone. He’ll need to prove he can produce at the pro level in order to secure his future, as his size may hinder him from succeeding in anything other than a top-six role.
Development with the Barracuda is going to be vital for him, at his age though he may be close to his prime so the learning curve may be steep. Signing O’Regan is a savvy move and should be an indicator to Sharks fans that the front office is committed to prospects from all areas. Never know when you might find the next Joe Pavelski.
