Derek Joslin traded to Carolina for future considerations

According to a Carolina Hurricanes press release, Sharks defenseman Derek Joslin has been traded to the Hurricanes in exchange for future considerations:

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired defenseman Derek Joslin (JAWS-lihn) from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for future considerations.

"Derek is a young defenseman who will add depth to our organization," said Rutherford. "He shows a good skill level and plays a solid two-way game."

No word yet on what those future considerations could be. A report from Working The Corners earlier today indicated the Sharks were set to acquire a "right-handed shooting defenseman that GM Doug Wilson reportedly has been seeking since last summer," and this move clears some cap space that allows San Jose to make that move.

Joslin is a promising young defenseman, but was reduced to a healthy scratch role this season with San Jose. Since he would have had to clear waivers in order to be assigned to Worcester, the organization's developmental affiliate in the American Hockey League, he was used as a depth defenseman in San Jose in the event of injuries.

Stay tuned today. We'll be covering news as it breaks.
