Emanuelsson scores twice as Barracuda double up Condors 4-2

In the second game of their weekend set, the San Jose Barracuda skated away with a 4-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) Sunday evening at the SAP Center.

Barracuda forward Petter Emanuelsson, who was reunited with linemates Ryan Carpenter and Barclay Goodrow, scored two goals while forward John McCarthy scored the go-ahead goal at 15:41 of the third period, which held up as the game winner. Between the pipes, goaltender Joel Rumpel made 24-saves for his first AHL win in his first AHL start.

In a first period that saw the Barracuda out-shoot the Condors 14-10 and a combined 20 penalty minutes, Emanuelsson put the Barracuda ahead 1-0 at 7:10 when he beat Condors goaltender Eetu Laurikainen with a snap shot from the top of the right slot for his seventh goal of the season after an own zone turnover by Condors defenseman Brad Hunt.

The Condors tied the game at 11:44 when off a face-off win inside the Barracuda zone, defenseman Dillon Simpson fired a shot from the left point that banked off the left end wall, was touched at the side of the crease by forward Mitch Moroz and deflected in off Barracuda defenseman Gus Young for Moroz’s third goal of the season.

Emanuelsson regained the lead for the Barracuda at 8:47 of the second period with his second goal of the game, eighth of the season, with a snap shot from inside the right slot to finish off an odd man rush for the Barracuda. Carpenter, who fed the puck to a trailing Emanuelsson with a pass from along the right side, and defenseman Gus Young, who poked the puck free in the neutral zone with a solid defensive play, had the assists on the goal.

As was the case in the first period when Emanuelsson scored, the Condors pulled even several minutes later, this time with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 11:21 from forward Jujhar Khaira, beat Barracuda captain Bryan Lerg to a loose puck in the neutral zone and beat Rumpel on a breakaway with a backhanded shot.

Just as it appeared the game would be heading to overtime, McCarthy skated down a loose puck in the neutral zone along the right side and beat Laurikainen with a backhanded shot from deep inside the right circle for his 12th goal of the season. Barracuda forward Trevor Parkes, who led McCarthy with a chip pass from inside the Barracuda zone, and defenseman Karl Stollery were credited with the assists.

With Laurikainen pulled for the extra skater, Barracuda forward Jeremy Morin sealed a Barracuda win with an empty net goal at 19:54 for his 12th goal of the season.
