The San Jose Sharks are getting ready to play another hot team today as the Philadelphia Flyers roll into town. The Flyers have won six in a row on the road, and are wrapping up the California swing with a stop in San Jose. The first two stops went well for the Flyers, a 3-2 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks and a 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings. While the Sharks appreciate the help in the playoff picture, the team would like to prevent the California sweep today.
The last three games have not been kind for the Sharks in terms of playoff standings. The Sharks have dropped down to fifth in the wild card race with the Utah Mammoth still holding strong to the first wild card spot and the Los Angeles Kings taking over the second spot. The Seattle Kraken and the Nashville Predators have jumped in front of the Sharks in the race with 71 points apiece. The Sharks are a point back with 70. The only good news in all of this is that the Sharks have at least a game in hand on all of these teams.
The Flyers are also fighting for a spot in the playoffs. The Flyers are fifth in the fight for the Eastern Conference, but have more ground to make up. Philadelphia is six points back of the Detroit Red Wings for the second wild card spot with just a game in hand. A lot more has to go Philly’s way for the Flyers to make the playoffs. That said, a good run and a little luck could help the team sneak in.
The Flyers are led by Travis Konecny, who has 59 points in 64 games. He also leads the team with 25 goals. Owen Tippett has 23 goals. In the net, Dan Vladar has taken on a majority of the workload this season. He is 22-11-7 this season with a .907 save percentage. Samuel Ersson is the backup with an 11-10- 5 record and a .864 save percentage.
The last time these two teams met was on Dec. 9 when the Flyers beat the Sharks 4-1.
San Jose Sharks lines today
The Sharks will be without forward Tyler Toffoli today, and it looks like he will be out for some time. Toffoli left Thursday’s game with an injury and did not return. Given the lineup the Flyers are icing with Garnet Hathaway and Garrett Wilson as the “fourth line,” it makes sense that Ryan Reaves slots back into today’s game.
According to NHL.com, Philipp Kurashev is on the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith and John Klingberg is back on defense after he was healthy scratched last game. Vincent Desharnais is injured and will not play.
