Friday Chum Bucket: Sharks sign Sheppard, Petrecki

  • San Jose signed James Sheppard, Frazer McLaren, John McCarthy, Bracken Kearns and Nick Petrecki to one-year, two-way contracts with NHL cap hits of $825,000, $632,500, $612,500, $550,000 and $650,000, respectively. Expect a formal announcement later today but it appears the Sharks will go with a 23-man roster featuring 14 forwards (including three of their four latest re-signings up front), 7 defensemen (including Matt Irwin and Petrecki), the 2 goalies and Brent Burns and Jason Demers on IR. • Speaking of Havlat, he’s grateful to even have a week of training camp after missing all of it while recovering from offseason surgery a season ago. Also, don’t expect the Sharks to sign Wade Redden. [CSN Bay Area]
