With six NHL games under his belt, 20-year-old Cam Lund has had a solid start to his career. He scored his first NHL goal on March 29 and followed it up with a second goal the very next night.

It’s not a bad start for a player who hasn’t had a lot of time to play with the team. Lund joined the Sharks after his junior season with Northeastern University, which ended in a double overtime loss to Maine University in the Hockey East Semifinal round. In his three seasons with Northeastern, Lund had 93 points in 107 games and steadily increased his production year over year.
Fear the Fin reached out to Northeastern Head Coach Jerry Keefe to get a better idea of what to expect when Lund hit the ice. The coach had nothing but praise for the 20-year-old forward.
“Cam was a difference maker for us the moment he stepped on campus. He scored big goals in the big games. He was a player that loved being at the rink and working on his game. Cam was a great teammate and drove our culture,” said Keefe.
At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Lund checks a lot of boxes physically that Sharks General Manager Mike Grier seems to like. Keefe says Sharks fans will also like the way Lund plays.
“The San Jose Sharks are getting a player that can flat out skate. He has tremendous glide that can be really deceptive to defend against,” said Keefe. “He is very dangerous in transition and can make high end plays on the rush. Cam has a great release when shooting the puck especially while in stride. He has an excellent hockey sense as well. He is big, skilled and can really skate.”
While Lund will only get in a handful of NHL games before the season ends, the entry-level deal that he signed this spring means that, barring any trades or injuries, he’ll be playing for the Sharks through the 2026-27 season.
Keefe, who has worked with Lund over the last three seasons, knows that there are a few things the young forward will be focusing on in the offseason.
“Cam will continue to work on his strength this off-season as gets ready for pro hockey. Working on being able to use his body over pucks against bigger stronger defenders. Also continue to keep getting more comfortable on his wall play at the pro level,” Keefe told Fear the Fin.
As for what Sharks fans are getting in Lund off the ice, Keefe thinks we’ll be happy.
“Cam is an awesome teammate. He has a great way about him and loves the game of hockey and being in the rink,” said Keefe. “He is a worker that wants to get better every day. His teammates have a lot of respect at how much he cares. He has fun being at the rink and is a real hard kid not to like! Tremendous young man that will be a great San Jose Shark!”
