William Eklund is a name that hockey fans should keep an eye on as he continues to impress both on and off the ice. William Eklund has been with the San Jose Sharks since being drafted seventh overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. He made his debut with the Sharks during the 2021-2022, and has been a member since.

Reflecting on a recent play in the Sharks game against the Carolina Hurricanes, Eklund kicked off the scoring by sliding himself into the net.

Eklund revealed a humble side about it, saying, “No clue, to be honest. I thought we drew a penalty, and it ended up being a goal. So just happy it went in and was happy to count it.”

Despite his modesty, it’s clear that Eklund’s awareness on the ice and ability to react quickly are integral to his game.

When asked about his playing style, Eklund described his strengths.

“My vision is probably my strongest, my edge work, and I combine those two with quick hands,” said Eklund.

For the young star, it’s this combination that makes him stand out. He remains in the top three goal scorers on the Sharks this season.

Eklund is still working on developing every aspect of his game.

“I think I am building the other parts of my game too, but I want to involve those parts even more,” he said.

Off the ice, Eklund is just as grounded, giving a glimpse into his personality. When asked what he would be doing if he wasn’t playing hockey, his response was simple yet thoughtful: “Fireman.” His reason? “I got a couple buddies who are firemen, so probably hang out with them.”

Growing up, Eklund tells us his inspiration came from inside his own home.

“Obviously, my dad played, so he was my role model,” said Eklund.

Looking ahead, Eklund sees the youthfulness of his team as both a challenge and an opportunity.

“It’s going to be huge to have a big young group,” he said, reflecting on the team’s future.

With several players still learning and developing, including himself, Eklund is focused on building his confidence and helping the team improve.

“We gotta get it bumped a little bit more here. I wanted to get us out of the spot we’re in right now and get us in the spot to make it for playoffs,” he added.

As the San Jose Sharks continue to rebuild, Eklund’s role as a leader among the team’s young players will be crucial. His vision on the ice, paired with his eagerness to grow and contribute, sets the stage for a bright future.

For Eklund, the next season is all about continuing to refine his game, gaining more confidence, and pushing the Sharks closer to playoff contention. With his drive and skill, Eklund’s journey is one to watch closely for years to come.
