Jets at Sharks game 58: Lines, game thread and how to watch

Fresh off a regulation win over the Edmonton Oilers, the San Jose Sharks are back on the ice and ready to welcome the Winnipeg Jets into town. The Jets are one of six teams that did not play yesterday and so the team is in town and well rested for today’s game. Winnipeg was in Anaheim on Friday and lost to the Ducks 5-4 in overtime. Connor Hellebuyck was in the net for the loss, his first game back since winning the gold medal for Team USA at the Olympics.

While not mathematically eliminated, the Jets are ten points out of a playoff spot as of today and five points behind the Sharks. Both of the teams would have to leap frog several other teams (Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, Utah Mammoth) to make it into the wild card race. In other words, it’s a crowded field, so both teams know this is a big deal game.

While we certainly don’t want to celebrate injuries, the Sharks will be facing a banged-up Jets team. Winnipeg will be without known Sharks killer Nino Niederreiter, who is week-to-week after he underwent surgery for a lower-body injury. Vladislav Namestnikov is also considered week-to-week after he was injured in the game against the Ducks. Defensemen Josh Morrissey and Neal Pionk are also out, which means Winnipeg is without some of the team’s top scorers on both the front and back ends.

Just the same, the team still has top scorers like Mark Scheifele, who leads the team with 70 points in 58 games, and Kyle Connor, who has 67 points. Both players also have 27 goals. Hellebuyck is 13-16-8 this season with a .899 save percentage. His backup, Eric Comrie, has a 10-9-1 record and a .893 record.

This is the second of three meetings between the two teams. The Sharks won the first meeting 2-1 on Nov. 7 in San Jose. They will wrap up the season series on April 16 in Winnipeg. It will be the last game of the Sharks’ season and could very well decide San Jose’s playoff fate.

San Jose Sharks lines today

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and what happened yesterday wasn’t broken. You have to imagine that the Sharks will roll the same forward lines today as yesterday. Hopefully, the same goes for the defense, though maybe Timothy Liljegren gets swapped in for Sam Dickinson. We’ll see what Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky says closer to game time.

We imagine Alex Nedeljkovic will be in the net since Yaroslav Askarov played yesterday.
