Joe Pavelski tallies 500th career point

Captain Joe Pavelski tallied his 500th career point Saturday, continuing the remarkable career of the center drafted in the seventh round.

He picked up an assist (his sixth on the season) on Marc-Edouard Vlasic’s power-play goal early in the first period against the Sabres. Here’s the video.

Pavelski is coming off back-to-back 35+ goal seasons and has already scored nine goals for the Sharks this season. He’s been a highlight in a bit of a seesaw campaign for San Jose so far.

There’s still a long way to go to catch up to Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, who are both nearing 1,000 points in their career; but Pavelski has already made his way to second in goals in a San Jose uniform with only Marleau to pass. He’s got his work cut out for him in that department, too (Marleau is near 450 goals in his San Jose career).
