Joe Thornton tallies 1,300th point

Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how special Joe Thornton is. One of the greatest players to suit up for the Sharks just reached another milestone, this time against the Colorado Avalanche.

With 4:32 remaining in the second period and San Jose up 2-0 (and on a 5-on-3 power-play), Thornton assisted on Joe Pavelski’s tally to notch his 1,300th point in an astonishing NHL career.

That makes Thornton just the 33rd player ever to reach that milestone and he and Jaromir Jagr are the only two active players to reach that plateau. As Thornton has aged his skill set has mutated for the better as he’s now one of the greatest play makers on the ice.

Check out the goal that gave Thornton his 1,300th point below. Here’s to many more records.

The Sharks currently lead the Avalanche 4-0, as Joel Ward cashed in with the Sharks on a 5-on-4 power play just moments after Pavelski’s goal.
