Klim Kostin speaks about his development

Klim Kostin’s journey has been filled with moments of reflection, growth and the weight of decisions that have reshaped his overall trajectory. He joined the San Jose Sharks with a promise to redefine himself beyond the “tough guy” label he often carried. Kostin brings a very fun-loving vibe to each team he has been on and carries the energy wherever he goes. However, as the season progressed, his path became a bit complicated.

Kostin has been developing as of late, but his playing time has been reduced. He hasn’t played for the team’s last four games and he was scratched on Thursday, when the Sharks played the Edmonton Oilers, one of Kostin’s former teams.

Even though he didn’t play, Kostin was watching the game closely.

“They [Edmonton] didn’t have some crucial players in there, like Leon Draisaitl and a few guys, they still played really good. Both teams played really good. It was fun to watch the game,” said Kostin.

But beyond just the game, Kostin had an emotional moment, speaking of his former teammates in Edmonton.

“I became, really, really close friends with most of the guys on their team. I spent, like, maybe 30-40 minutes hugging everyone, talking to everyone—coaches, trainers, equipment guys. I still love them a lot,” said Kostin.

It was evident that his time in Edmonton, particularly after being traded from the St. Louis Blues, had a deep impact on him.

“It was my first trade, and I was kind of nervous because I didn’t really speak English at the time, and there were no Russians on the team,” said Kostin. “I was going in there really nervous, probably thinking guys weren’t gonna welcome me. But it was awesome. The guys gave me a warm welcome. Everyone offered me help if I needed anything.”

Kostin’s connection to his teammates is key to his identity as a player. The close relationships he fostered have only grown as he found himself in San Jose.

“We had a pretty tight group here, and we have a lot of young guys here, but I don’t think anyone’s afraid of anyone in this league,” said Kostin. “You always have a 50/50 chance going into the game, and you just have to give everything you’ve got.”

Despite the uncertainty about his future with the Sharks, Kostin remains focused on his personal growth and development as a player. When asked about how he was approaching his game, he kept it simple.

“I’m just gonna keep working hard, just do what’s asked of me. But I don’t know where it’s gonna go. I just try and do my best every day,” said Kostin.

Kostin’s words show a player who is still evolving, striving to find his place in a league that continues to challenge him. With his contract situation and potential opportunities ahead, his ability to focus on the present and give his all every day could be the key to unlocking the next stage of his career.

Fans of the Sharks and the league will be watching to see how his story unfolds, whether he finds his footing in San Jose or moves on to another chapter.
