The Sharks will wrap up their six-game homestand tonight against the worst combination of human beings assembled, otherwise known as the Los Angeles Kings.

Is it concerning that the Sharks haven’t clinched a playoff berth yet? No. I’m just like the rest of you: We know San Jose will clinch eventually but it would feel 100 times better if they just did so already. Taking a look back at the past three losses, the Sharks have played considerably well.

Yes, the loss to Edmonton on Thursday was the worst to swallow, especially after taking a 2-0 lead. Against St. Louis and Dallas, they ran into two hot teams whose goalies saved the game for them. San Jose out shot both the Blues and Stars but Brian Elliott and Antti Niemi had great performances.

Remember, the Sharks have been playing without Matt Nieto, Joonas Donskoi, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. I’m not one to create excuses, but skating Micheal Haley over somebody like Barclay Goodrow or Bryan Lerg is just irresponsible.

The Sharks can clinch again tonight, either with a win over the Kings or an Arizona loss to Calgary. Fourth time’s the charm?

Know Your Enemy: Jewels From The Crown

Last Meeting:

Marian Gaborik scored the game-winning goal in overtime to knock off the Sharks 3-2 in San Jose back in late January. Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture scored San Jose’s two goals against backup Jhonas Enroth but it wasn’t enough as Los Angeles left SAP Center with two points.

Storylines:

• The road team is 4-0 in the season series with San Jose winning two games at Staples Center and Los Angeles taking the other two at SAP Center. Hopefully the Sharks can break that pattern this evening.
• Will Donskoi return to the lineup? He was scratched as a gametime decision against Dallas on Saturday after leaving Thursday’s game hurt. He’s a dynamic player and there’s no one else quite like him on the roster to replicate what he brings to the rink.
• The Sharks three-game losing streak has seemingly put them out of the race for the Pacific Division; it will either be the Kings or the Anaheim Ducks. If the Ducks are able to jump the Kings in the standings by the end of the season, tonight’s regular season finale against L.A. preview’s a potential first round match-up between the two teams.
• It’s frickin’ Chia Burns night!
