Mueller, Lerg, McCarthy reassigned

The Sharks have reassigned forwards Bryan Lerg and John McCarthy, along with defenseman Mirco Mueller to the Barracuda..

Lerg and McCarthy both played in Saturday’s game against the Hurricanes. Mueller was a healthy scratch.

This move leaves the team with 12 forwards (plus Logan Couture), 6 defenseman, and 2 goaltenders listed on the official roster.

What is slightly odd about this move is that there are no Barracuda games for a while. Their next game is November 1st – next Sunday. The Sharks don’t play again until Wednesday. It does make some sense to send these players back down to their normal spots for practices, but not if someone else will need to come up by Wednesday. Regardless, it saves a small amount under the cap.

Hopefully, this means Joonas Donskoi and/or Ben Smith will be good to go for the next game. Please let this be the case. I don’t want to see a 4th line as thin as McCarthy-Lerg-Brown ever again.

If Donksoi/Smith aren’t ready to go by then, I’d imagine we’re very likely to see another call-up. This is very likely the norm now with the minor league affiliate sharing the same building. Too bad the “San Jose Shuttle” doesn’t have the same ring to it as the “Worcester Shuttle”.
