NHL Draft 2018: Sharks select Jasper Weatherby in Fourth Round

The San Jose Sharks drafted Jasper Weatherby with the ninth pick of the fourth round, 102nd overall. The Sharks traded the 123rd and 139th overall picks in this year’s draft to Montreal so they could move up and take Weatherby.

Weatherby, a 6-foot-4 center, played for the Wenachtee Wild of the British Columbia Hockey League last season. He has committed to University of North Dakota next season. Weatherby, who was born January 22, 1998, is one of the older players in the draft. In 58 games, he led the BCHL in points (74) and tied for the league lead in goals (37).

Central Scouting ranked Weatherby 198 among North American skaters, so it is fair to say that this was something of a reach. But North Dakota is a top-end NCAA program, and playing there will certainly help Weatherby continue to develop.
