Pacific Division Round Up: Kings win five straight

They’re still in last place, though.

The Los Angeles Kings have decided they wanted to be good at hockey a little late in the season, going on a five-game winning streak this week. They even scored seven goals in one game this weekend. Not too bad for last place, right?

Here’s how the rest of the division spent the week:

Anaheim Ducks (28-32-9)

The Anaheim Ducks started their week off on the wrong foot by losing 6-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks. John Gibson allowed five goals before being replaced by Ryan Miller, who allowed one. They bounced back in overtime against the Colorado Avalanche, winning 4-3. They played again on Friday, as the Toronto Maple Leafs closed out their California tour. The Ducks came out on top, 2-1. John Gibson was injured during this game. He went down with less than 10 minutes left during the game and appears to be day-to-day. Ryan Miller was in net on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild and the Ducks fell short 5-4 in overtime.

Aside from losing Gibson to injury, they are also without Hampus Lindholm. Lindholm suffered a lower-body injury and has no timeline to return. Josh Manson was out for a bit and returned on Sunday against the Wild.

The Ducks will see the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at 7 PT.

Arizona Coyotes (33-28-8)

The Arizona Coyotes only hit the ice twice, making for a very short week. The first game was against division rivals, the Vancouver Canucks. Arizona came out on top with a 4-2 victory. Darcy Kuemper manned the pipes and made 36 saves. The second game was another division face off, where the Calgary Flames beat them 3-2.

Jacob Chychrun will miss the upcoming road trip with a hip injury.

The Coyotes kick off that road trip against the Winnipeg Jets today at 5 PT.

Calgary Flames (36-27-7)

The Calgary Flames kicked off their week with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Their next game was that 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes. Finally, they faced the Vegas Golden Knights and lost 5-3. The one time we actually want them to win, they went and lost. What a shame.

Noah Hanifin was injured during the game against Vegas. He suffered an upper-body injury and did not return.

The Flames will see the New York Islanders on Thursday at 6 PT.

Edmonton Oilers (37-24-8)

The Edmonton Oilers scored a total of eight goals on Monday against the Nashville Predators. Leon Draisaitl scored four goals while Connor McDavid, Josh Archibald, Kailer Yamamoto and Zack Kassian also got on the board. They won again on Tuesday, this time in overtime. James Neal returned to the lineup as they beat the Dallas Stars 2-1. Joe Pavelski did not score, guys.

The Oilers couldn’t keep their winning streak going, falling 4-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks. They wrapped up the week with a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Mikko Koskinen made an impressive 45 saves that night.

The Oilers will face the Golden Knights today at 6 PT.

Los Angeles Kings (27-35-6)

While the Kings had a short week, playing only two games, it doesn’t change the fact that they are on a five-game winning streak. They first beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 1-0 in a shootout. Adrian Kempe scored the shootout goal, while Jonathan Quick made 36 saves to keep his team in the game. Saturday brought a big win over the Minnesota Wild. They won 7-3, thanks to a hat trick from Dustin Brown, while Anze Kopitar, Blake Lizotte, Trevor Moore and Gabriel Vilardi all got on the board, as well.

Jeff Carter is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. He has no timetable to return.

The Kings will play the Colorado Avalanche today at 7:30 PT.

Vancouver Canucks (35-27-6)

The Vancouver Canucks kicked off their week with a 4-2 loss to the Coyotes. They were singing a different tune on Friday when they beat the Avalanche. Zack MacEwen found the net twice in the 6-3 win. The other goals were scored by J.T. Miller, Antoine Roussel, Tanner Pearson and Troy Stecher.

They hit the ice again on Sunday, but couldn’t find another victory. They lost 2-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Canucks will host the New York Islanders tomorrow at 7 PT.

Vegas Golden Knights (38-24-8)

The Vegas Golden Knights are in first place still, unfortunately. They kicked off their week with a 3-0 shutout win over the New Jersey Devils. But they got a taste of their own medicine when they faced the Winnipeg Jets and were shutout 4-0. They bounced back on Sunday, beating the Calgary Flames 5-3.

Alex Tuch is expected to return to the lineup during their road trip, while Cody Glass will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The Golden Knights will see the Edmonton Oilers today at 6 PT.
