Oilers at Sharks game 57: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks have a tough task ahead, made even tougher by the fact that the team is struggling to find its way through one of the toughest parts of the season. While playoff-bound teams know what it means to ramp things up in preparation for the postseason, the Sharks are learning how to play these meaningful games as they go along. One of those tests will come today against the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers are finishing up a three-game roadtrip through California. Edmonton lost to the Anaheim Ducks 6-5 on Wednesday and then turned around and stomped on the Los Angeles Kings 8-1 on Thursday. Connor McDavid scored two points in the game, becoming the first player this season to reach the 100-point plateau.

The trouble for the Sharks is that McDavid isn’t the only danger on the ice. There’s also Leon Draisaitl, who has 84 points this season and Evan Bouchard, who has 66 points. In the net, Tristan Jarry is 15-7-2 with a .890 save percentage.

This is the second of four meetings between these two teams. The last time they met was on Jan. 29 when the Sharks lost 4-3 in overtime. While another three-point game against a division rival is not ideal, it’s certainly better than losing outright at this juncture in the season. The Sharks need points anyway they can get them.

If there’s one thing the Sharks need to do today, it’s stay out of the box. The Oilers are absolute killers on the power play. Edmonton is 32.3% on the man advantage, scoring about once every third opportunity. The Sharks’ penalty kill is only operating at 78.7% so the statistics are not in San Jose’s favor.

San Jose Sharks lines today

In terms of the lines, we’ll see if Shakir Mukhamadullin is available for today’s game. He wasn’t with the team yesterday for personal reasons, according to the Bay Area News Group’s Curtis Pashelka.

Other than that, it’s possible Pavol Regenda will get back in after his return from the Olympics. He missed the last game. If Regenda’s back in, look for someone like Ryan Reaves to sit. Of course, the players didn’t practice this morning because it’s a day game, so we’ll assume it’s the same lineup as last time until we hear otherwise.

EDIT: Regenda is in for Reaves and Mukhamadullin is in for Liljegren.
