Jake Walman returns to San Jose for the first time since the San Jose Sharks traded him to the Edmonton Oilers. Ty Emberson is also back in San Jose for the first time since he was traded.
While Walman and Emberson will both be in the lineup tonight for the Oilers, there are a lot of key players missing. Connor McDavid, Mattias Ekholm and Stuart Skinner are all injured and will not play on the entire California road trip. Trent Frederic is also not ready to return to the lineup.
Even without McDavid, the Oilers have plenty of scoring. Leon Draisaitl has 105 points in 70 games this season. He also has 52 goals to lead the team. Four players have 20 or more goals this season — Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. In the net, look for backup Calvin Pickard, who is 19-8-1 this season with a 2.69 goals against average and .899 save percentage.
The Oilers are battling with the Los Angeles Kings for home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Right now, the Kings are two points up on the Oilers. The Oilers are 6-3-1 in the team’s last ten games and have won two in a row.
The last time the Sharks and the Oilers played was Dec. 21, when the Sharks lost 3-2 in overtime. They will meet two more times after tonight. The next meeting is in Edmonton on April 11 and the final meeting is on April 16, the Sharks’ final game of the season.
