Quick Bite: James Reimer picks up shutout as Sharks cruise past Oilers

San Jose wrapped up an Albertan sweep with a shutout.

A terrific performance by James Reimer helped the Sharks sweep its Albertan back-to-back 3-0 on Tuesday. San Jose took an early lead and never looked back a day after a tight win over Calgary.

The Sharks didn't exactly control play but managed to hold a relatively hot Edmonton Oilers team down and stayed out of the penalty box. Edmonton only got two chances on the power play and the Sharks held them off the board while failing to score on their own two chances on the player-advantage.

Logan Couture scored twice on four shots and Joe Pavelski had a two-point night in San Jose's win. Brent Burns only had two shots and had his four-game goal streak snapped.

Couture got the first goal of the game as a half-save by Cam Talbot ended up sitting in the Edmonton crease for over a second before anyone realized it was there. A crowd around Talbot formed and Couture managed to backhand the puck underneath the Oilers goaltender.

Couture doubled that up for the Sharks on the power play. With a wide-open shooting lane, Couture whipped a wicked wrister straight into the top corner early on in the player-advantage to put San Jose up 2-0. That sent the Sharks to the first intermission with a 2-0 lead.

The second period started slowly but Joe Pavelski tipped the Sharks ahead 3-0 to take a commanding advantage into the second intermission. There was no scoring in the third period, though Patrick Marleau was denied by a wonderful sprawling save by Cam Talbot.

Sharks goals (assists): Logan Couture (Matt Nieto, Joonas Donskoi), Logan Couture (Brent Burns, Joe Pavelski), Joe Pavelski (Paul Martin, Joe Thornton)
