Quick Bite: Marleau records 1000th point, Sharks win 3-1 in Pittsburgh

It was a historical night for Patrick Marleau and an exciting return to Pittsburgh for former Penguin, Paul Martin. With a goal in each period, the San Jose Sharks are leaving Pittsburgh with two points and a sweet 3-1 victory over the Pens. The Sharks remain perfect on this road trip with their fifth straight win away from home.

It was all smiles and stick taps on the Sharks bench when Marleau recorded his 1000th NHL point in the 1st period. After a missing a short-handed chance to put the Sharks on the board, Marleau’s 1000th point came on a secondary assist on the first Sharks goal of the game scored by Brent Burns at 7:54 in the 1st period.

Here’s a look at Burns’ goal and Marleau’s landmark 1000th career point:

It was back to business for the Sharks after that. The Penguins struck in the 2nd period. With Joe Pavelski in the box serving a double-minor, Phil Kessel capitalized on the man advantage with two seconds left in the Sharks’ first minor penalty to make the score 1-1.

Kessel’s tying goal:

The Sharks answered quickly, regaining the lead on Burns’ second goal of the game assisted by Paul Martin and Patrick Marleau (and maybe also Rob Scuderi’s skate).

Burns’ second goal of the evening:

Paul Martin continued to put on a show in front of his former team, scoring a long goal in the 3rd period to put the Sharks up 3-1.

Sharks Goal (Assists): Brent Burns (Joel Ward, Patrick Marleau), Phil Kessel (Patric Hornqvist, Sidney Crosby), Brent Burns (Paul Martin, Patrick Marleau), Paul Martin (Joonas Donskoi),

Sharks Saves: Martin Jones – 38 saves
