Quick Bite: Pavelski scores twice, Sharks beat Coyotes

A couple of goals from Joe Pavelski in the first and third periods led the Sharks to victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Friday night. Martin Jones started in net and made 18 saves for the shutout, closing out the preseason with a 3-1-0 record and a .970 save percentage.

With the Sharks calling up nine players for the second half of the back-to-back tomorrow night, it seems likely that this is the last preseason game for many of the regulars, so it’s nice to see a solid performance all around (at least in the boxscore, anyway, since this game wasn’t televised).

Pavelski scored on the powerplay less than six minutes into the game to give the Sharks an early lead. After a scoreless second, Tomas Hertl notched one early in the third to put his team up by two. Pavelski scored the final goal of the game with about 10 minutes remaining in the third. Marleau, Couture, Thornton, Dillon, Hertl and Nieto all recorded assists on the night. The Sharks outshot the Coyotes by a score of 30-18. San Jose closes out the preseason tomorrow night in Anaheim.
