Quick Bite: Sharks come from behind to take down Bruins

The San Jose Sharks came from behind to take a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night thanks to a two-point night from Joonas Donskoi and a solid performance by James Reimer.

Donskoi scored the game-winner midway through the third period on a Joel Ward shot, cashing in on a power-play that gave San Jose a 3-2 lead. From there, Boston had its chances but Reimer (and the post) were up to the challenge, holding off the Bruins for a victory.

The win is San Jose’s fourth in five games and second in a row and kept the Sharks in pace with the Kings and Ducks, both of whom won on Monday (and the Kings won again Tuesday). San Jose scored on one power play, gave up a goal on another and generally dominated 5v5 play, particularly in the second period.

San Jose out shot the Bruins 27-23 and 23-17 at 5v5. Reimer made 21 saves overall and 16 at even strength.

A slick pass by Joonas Donskoi to Melker Karlsson opened the scoring nearly nine minutes into the first period. That lead proved to be short lived as David Krejci evened the score on a nice shot that beat James Reimer. It was the first even-strength goal allowed by the new Sharks goaltender.

Then things got ugly. With the Sharks on the first power play of the game, Brent Burns turned the puck over in the neutral zone and Loui Eriksson scored his 27th of the year as Krejci picked up his second point of the period.

Burns made up for that mistake, as he so often seems to do, with a shot that deflected off Ryan Spooner and tied the game at two midway through the second period. That capped off a nice string of pressure by the Sharks, who controlled the play for most of the middle stanza. San Jose entered the second intermission with 23 shots to Boston’s 17.

Sharks goals (assists): Melker Karlsson (Joonas Donskoi, Logan Couture), Brent Burns (Tomas Hertl, Joe Thornton), Joonas Donskoi (Joel Ward, Brent Burns)
