Quick Bite: Sharks score five straight to beat Kings

San Jose scored five unanswered goals to beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-1 in Wednesday’s season opener.

Every member of the Joenass Brothers line scored a goal, including Joonas Donskoi’s first NHL goal. The Brent BurnsPaul Martin pairing was terrific and the Sharks looked spectacular on special teams. It was a very complete performance for San Jose and it never hurts to do it against the Kings.

Los Angeles got on the board in under two minutes, but it was all San Jose for the next two periods. Both Joes scored, as did Brent Burns and Tomas Hertl on a nifty deflection of a Marc-Edouard Vlasic shot. The offense, and in particular the power play, looked electric, but this Dustin Brown hit on Logan Couture will be a major talking point tomorrow.

Another look:

It wasn’t the final altercation Couture would find himself in. He leveled Milan Lucic late in the third period and Lucic reacted about how you’d expect — making a beeline for the Sharks’ bench for revenge.

Logan Couture also put a big hit on Milan Lucic late in the third, which may be the secret highlight of the game.

In other news, Martin Jones made this beauty of a save, one of 19 he made on the night:

And Joonas Donskoi opened his NHL account.

Great start to the season for the Sharks. They’ll be back in action on Saturday at home against Anaheim. We’ll have a post up tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. further breaking down tonight’s game.
