Quick Bite: Tomas Hertl scores OT winner, Sharks win five straight

Tomas Hertl potted a three-on-three game winner against ex-Shark Antti Niemi to get the Sharks their fifth straight victory and put them only one point back of second place in the Pacific division.

The Stars opened the scoring nine minutes into the game. The Sharks had one penalty in the period, but shots were mostly even throughout the first twenty minutes.

Four minutes into the second period, Marc-Edouard Vlasic tied the game, putting his first of two past Niemi:

Chris Tierney scored on the Sharks first power play, making the score 2-1. At the end of two periods, the Sharks already had 30 shots and were leading the Stars 30-21.

The teams traded goals in quick succession in the third period, with the Stars opening the period’s scoring within the first minute.

The Stars challenged Vlasic’s second goal of the game (another power play goal), but the call on the ice was upheld.

The Stars tied the game on a bad play by Martin Jones and the game was sent into overtime.

Tomas Hertl scored the overtime winner in less than two minutes, securing the win for the Sharks and increasing the winning streak to five games.

The Sharks look to match their longest winning streak of the season on Monday vs the Senators.
