Let’s hope it’s just the flu and not a sign of something more. The San Jose Sharks put forth yet another lackluster performance, the second in a row, and lost to the New York Islanders by a score of 4-1. This was a very winnable game for the Sharks, so the fact that the team came out and allowed the Islanders to thoroughly skate all over them is, hopefully, not the start of a bad trend.
Looking at Natural Stat Trick’s Corsi differential in all situations, you can see that the Islanders essentially took over the game in the second period, and the Sharks never pushed back enough to get anywhere close to making it a game.

The Sharks put 19 shots up, held below the 20-shot threshold for the second game in a row. Only one of those shots went in, a shot from the boards from Barclay Goodrow.

Alexandar Georgiev, playing in his third game in a row, was nothing exceptional in net. Georgiev had a .871 save percentage and allowed four goals compared to his expected goals against of 3.69.
In terms of production, none of the lines were particularly impactful in last night’s game. Of them, the combination the line of Barclay Goodrow, Nico Sturm and Collin Graf were the most impactful with a 50% Corsi rating.
This will be a quick turnaround for the Sharks. They’ll be back on the ice in Boston tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. PT.
