Red Wings at Sharks game 13: Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks are back on the ice this evening, just over 24 hours after winning in overtime against the Colorado Avalanche. Let’s hope the Sharks didn’t leave it all out on the ice because the Detroit Red Wings are well rested. Detroit was in town to watch the game. The Red Wings have won seven of the team’s last ten games and are 8-4-0 for the season, good enough for second in the Atlantic Division.

So far on this California roadie, Detroit has had a split decision. The Red Wings beat the Los Angeles Kings in overtime on Thursday night, but lost to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. This is the rubber match in California.

Detroit’s top scorer is Dylan Larkin, who has 17 points for the season. The team’s hottest scorer is Alex DeBrincat, who has eight points and four goals in his last five games. There will be a familiar face in the net for the Red Wings. John Gibson is in the net for Detroit, though he’s been having a tough go of it to start the season. Gibson has a 4-3-0 record with a 3.32 goals against average and .875 save percentage. His backup, Cam Talbot has been faring better. Talbot has a 4-1-0 record with a 2.94 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.

Before we jump into the lineup, let’s talk good news for Sharks fans. What we all hoped for is coming true. Sam Dickinson is with the Sharks to stay. The young defenseman found out this morning that he’ll be playing today. It marks his 10th NHL game, which means the Sharks are burning the first year of his entry-level contract. It also means there’s no reason to send him to the OHL now.

San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng reports that Michael Misa was one of the first guys to congratulate Dickinson when the news was revealed.

San Jose Sharks lines

So now that we know that Dickinson is playing, we can get to the bad news. The Sharks’ forwards are a little banged up. William Eklund will sit. He’s injured. Ryan Reaves was placed on injured reserve. The team has called up Ethan Cardwell in his stead. Misa is also out, but that’s most likely a game management thing, just as they did with Will Smith. It’s extra important now since the Sharks are at the 50 contract limit. San Jose has to make a move before they burn all nine of Misa’s games.

Timothy Liljegren is reportedly okay to play after taking a puck to the face yesterday, but the Sharks will look to play 11 forwards/7 defense today, maybe just in case Liljegren needs to sit out for part of the game. With all of that shuffling, here’s what we suspect the lines will look like.

Forwards
Tyler Toffoli – Macklin Celebrini – Will Smith
Philipp Kurashev – Alexander Wennberg – Jeff Skinner
Collin Graf – Ty Dellandrea – Ethan Cardwell

Defense
