Report: Mantas Armalis and Marcus Sorensen signing with San Jose Sharks

Today it was announced by the Sportbladet, a paper in Sweden, that Mantas Armalis, a goalie and Marcus Sorensen, a forward are signing with the San Jose Sharks.

Armalis has gained some notoriety over here in the states for his model good looks. No, seriously. The guy has done some modeling work.

Wow. I will leave it at that.

So what about the stats for these two players?

Armalis was sixth in the Swedish Hockey League with a .918 sv%, he is one of the youngest goalies on the list and has shown that a move over to North America may be savvy. While Armalis may impress on and off the ice over in Europe, his role on the Sharks would more than likely be AHL goaltender. He’s a good project at this point, but nothing more.

Meanwhile, Sorensen was the fourth-leading scorer on Djurgardens IF and was the youngest player in the top five of team scoring. At only 23 years of age, he is still relatively young and has a chance to develop. Sorensen was formerly a fourth round pick of the Ottawa Senators, here is his scouting report courtesy of Elite Prospects:

An offensively skilled forward. Sörensen is a good skater and has fine puckhandling ability and soft hands. A pretty good scorer with some creativity. Of average size, but plays pretty big and gets involved physically.

Not a lot to write home about but looks to be a safe pick up by all means.

These two moves may not rock the hockey world but they are two safe pickups that have relatively good upside. Can’t complain about that can we?
