Report: Sharks to sign Nick DeSimone

According to Elliotte Friedman the San Jose Sharks will make their second dip into the NCAA UFA pond and sign Union College defenseman Nick DeSimone.

DeSimone, 22, finished seventh on his team in scoring with 9 goals and 10 assists in 37 games and a +17. Nine of his points came on the power play. He also finished seventh among defenders in the NCAA’s ECAC Conference.

If the signing becomes official I expect that, like Clifton, he will join the San Jose Barracuda on an already crowded blue line. Previously DeSimone has attended orientation camp with the Edmonton Oilers who are rumored to have also been in play for his services.

Rumors from less reputable sources have the Sharks in the hunt for forward, and teammate, Spencer Foo.  Foo,  23, was second in team scoring with 26 goals and 35 assists in 38 games and has previously attended San Jose Sharks orientation camp but with more than a few ties to members of the Oilers organization this may be wishful thinking at best.
