The San Jose Barracuda have signed forward Tristan Langan, who most recently played for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League, to a one-year AHL contract, the Barracuda announced Monday afternoon.
Langan spent four years with the Warriors, where he recorded 184 total points in 241 games. In his final juniors season, he recorded 113 points (53 goals, 60 points; second in the WHL in points and assists and tied for first in goals) and was named to the First All-Star Team.
According to analyst Emmanuel Perry, Langan was 0.38 Wins Above Replacement-per 82 games for the Warriors. That number is comparable to current San Jose Sharks prospects Alexander Chmelevski and Ivan Chekhovich.
Langan was in the 75th percentile of all CHL skaters in impact on his team’s even-strength scoring network, according to Evan Oppenheimer. Langan led the Warriors in even-strength scoring network impact.
Also using Perry’s model, Langan has a 33 percent chance to make the NHL — higher than that of both Chmelevski and Chekhovich. That’s unlikely to happen this season, given that his contract is AHL only, but having him in the Sharks’ depth system is a great opportunity for the organization to take a look at him playing alongside the Sharks’ prospects.
