It was unveiled today that the San Jose Sharks will indeed play 82 regular season games this year, barring some unforseen catastrophe in one of the many markets where that’s a legitimate possibility. Before you hop down to the comments to complain, I can confirm that this is the 2015-16 schedule and yes, the Sharks will once again start their season in Los Angeles against the Kings.
The good news is that the only banner the Kings will be raising to the rafters will be of the “1,000,000 served” McDonald’s variety. The bad news is that the Kings didn’t take a page out of the Sharks 2014 offseason handbook and sign some terrible players — although Jonathan Quick, Dustin Brown and Mike Richards are all still under contract until we’ll all be dead and gone off the scorched remains of this planet, so who’s the real loser here?
The Sharks will only play the one game on the road to start the season before darting back home to host the Ducks, who will be raising the “PDO only got us so far” banner in their home opener for the second or third year in a row. Following the home opener, the Sharks will head east for a four-game road swing that will see them take on the Capitals, Islanders, Devils and Rangers.
San Jose will play host to the defending champion Blackhawks on November 25, and Sidney Crosby and the Penguins will head to SAP Center on December 1. Tampa Bay will come to town four days later and the first time you’ll get a chance to see the Edmonton McDavids will be on January 14.
February will be a month from hell as the Sharks will play 11 road games compared to just four home games. They’ll get the reverse treatment in a stretch where they’ll play 11 home games in the month of March while playing just five road contests.
The season wraps up at home against the Jets and the Coyotes. What’s the most anticipated game on this season’s schedule?
