Sharks will pick 7th overall in 2021 NHL Draft

Based on the results of the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery and the 2021 season, the San Jose Sharks will draft seventh-overall in the 2021 Entry Draft. Just one team moved up as a result of the lottery; the Seattle Kraken are the first expansion team to win a lottery selection, leap-frogging over the Anaheim Ducks for second overall. The Buffalo Sabres, who had the league’s worst record in 2021, will select first overall.

The Sharks have never picked at seventh overall. Viktor Kozlov (1993) and Milan Michalek (2003) were selected by the team at sixth, while Devin Setoguchi (2005) is the only selection they’ve made at eighth. This marks the first time the Sharks have drafted in the top ten since 2015, when they selected Timo Meier at ninth overall.

Owen Power, a 6-foot-6 defender at the University of Michigan currently tops the North American Central Scouting rankings, but the top ten is stocked with talent. Given the drafting acumen of the six teams ahead of them, there’s a real chance for San Jose get an impact player here.
