Changes made to the Sharks and Barracuda schedules

Both the San Jose Sharks and their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, have announced changes to their 2021 schedules.

For the Sharks, they were scheduled to face the Vegas Golden Knights tonight and on Wednesday. Those games were rescheduled, as Vegas has one player and three members of the coaching staff on the COVID-19 protocols list.

In rearranging the schedule, the Sharks will now be facing Vegas for their home opener on Feb. 13, with the second game bumped to Feb. 25. The Sharks were previously facing the Anaheim Ducks on Feb. 13, now moved to April 6, between two series against the Los Angeles Kings. The new date for the second game against Vegas would see the Sharks playing three games in three nights, so the game against the St. Louis Blues scheduled for Feb. 26 has been moved to March 8.

Here are the updates to the Sharks’ schedule:

Revised Sharks Schedule, 2/1/2021

OPPONENT NEW DATE START TIME PREVIOUS DATE
Vegas Golden Knights Feb 13 1 pm PT Feb 1
Vegas Golden Knights Feb 25 7:30 pm PT Feb 3
Anaheim Ducks April 6 7:30 pm PT Feb 13
St. Louis Blues March 8 7:30 pm PT Feb 26

The San Jose Barracuda, who have cancelled all team activities, as well as their final preseason game, due to a positive COVID test on the team, have also updated their schedule, but are still expected to open the season on Feb. 5.

Instead, the updates come from the Stockton Heat, AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, relocating to Calgary, Alberta for the season. The NHL has seen their share of issues already with the closed border between the United States and Canada while making trades. For ease of call-ups, it makes sense for the Heat to temporarily relocate.

The Ontario Reign (Kings) and San Diego Gulls (Ducks) will also relocate, playing in El Segundo and Irvine, respectively.

The new ‘Cuda schedule will see them play 20 home games, with three being held in Tucson, Arizona, due to Santa Clara County’s coronavirus restrictions. Seven will be held at Solar4America Ice, due to conflicts with the Sharks, and the remaining ten will be played at SAP Center.
