Sharks at Rangers preview: Sharks need to bank a win in Labanc’s hometown

The Sharks will try to reverse their fortunes tonight against the New York Rangers after dropping a 5-3 decision to the New York Islanders on Saturday, despite a Logan Couture hat trick. The Rangers currently sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan division standings with only two regulation wins to their credit thus far in the season.

Martin Jones is expected to get the start in net after a disappointing  performance from backup Aaron Dell against the Isles. Kevin Labanc assisted on two of Couture’s three goals on Saturday and will prepare to lace up against his hometown Rangers tonight. He’ll look to maintain his early season success that has boosted the sophomore forward to the second spot on the team in scoring.

The Rangers are coming off a hard-fought 4-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Saturday, and will be looking to string consecutive wins together for the first time this season. They’re led in scoring by center J.T. Miller, who has four points in his last three games.

Tonight’s match-up represents an opportunity for two teams that have struggled in  October. The game will be televised nationally on NHL Network in the U.S. Regionally, it will appear on NBCS-CA in the Bay Area and MSG for the home Rangers.
