Sharks re-sign Kevin Labanc to one-year contract

Labanc has been an asset among the Sharks’ middle-six forwards.

The San Jose Sharks have re-signed Restricted Free Agent right winger Kevin Labanc to a one-year contract, the Sharks announced Monday. The monetary terms of the deal were not released to the public.

Labanc appeared in every game of the 2018-2019 season, recording 17 goals and 39 assists for 56 total points. In the 2019 playoffs, Labanc recorded nine points (four goals, five assists) in 20 games.

Labanc appeared frequently on the Sharks’ power play this past season and recorded 20 points (two goals, 18 assists) while on the man-advantage.

In his three seasons as a Shark, Labanc has seen more games played each year: he skated in 55 games in 2016-2017 and 77 games in 2017-2018. In his 214 total games in teal, Labanc has 36 goals and 80 assists for 116 total points.

UPDATE:

Per Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, Labanc’s deal is worth $1 million.

With that in mind, here’s Sheng’s speculation on a possible roster for San Jose, assuming Patrick Marleau completes his long-rumored return home.

Quite a steal.
