Sharks sign defender Scott Harrington to 1-year contract

Friday morning, the San Jose Sharks announced that the club has signed defender Scott Harrington to a one-year, two-way contract with an expected cap hit of $750,000 per CapFriendly.

Signed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the Sharks on Sept. 9, Harrington has recorded one goal and two shots in two preseason games. He is also expected to appear in the line-up for the preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights tonight at T-Mobile Arena.

“Scott came into camp on a tryout, performed well, and earned his contract. He’s a high character person and we are excited to have him join the Sharks,” said Sharks general manager Mike Grier in a release.

In the 2021-22 season, Harrington skated in seven games for the Blue Jackets, recording one assist and six penalty minutes. He also appeared in 50 games for the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, where he posted seven points (three goals, four assists).

Through his 210-game NHL tenure, which includes appearances with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and six seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the 29-year-old has accounted for 7 goals, 31 assists and 77 penalty minutes. In 193 career AHL games, the defender has registered 11 goals, 35 assists, 104 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating. In his six seasons with the Blue Jackets, Harrington totaled 37 points (7 goals, 30 assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 185 games.

On the international stage, the defender has represented Canada at the U18 World Championship (2011) and World Junior Championship (2012, 2013).

The 6-foot-2, 204-pound native of Kingston, Ontario was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (54th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

In addition to signing Harrington, the Sharks made two more roster moves today, placing C.J. Suess and Andrew Agozzino on waivers to reassign the forwards to the San Jose Barracuda’s training camp. Both players were acquired during free agency this past off-season.
