Timo Meier fined for embellishment

San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment in Saturday’s loss against the Nashville Predators, NHL Public Relations announced Thursday afternoon.

Meier drew an interference penalty on Roman Josi at 16:36 of the second period and was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the time.

Meier previously received a warning from the NHL for an incident on Feb. 5 against the Winnipeg Jets.

The $2,000 dollar fine is a flat amount mandated by the NHL under Rule 64: Diving/Embellishment. The amount is less than .25 percent of Meier’s $832,500 total salary for this season. The money will go towards the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, which primarily assists retired NHL players.
