Sharks vs Sabres Preview: Sharks in need of wake up call

If the first two games are any indication of how the San Jose Sharks are going to play this year, it could be a long and grueling season. The Sharks are 0-2 for the first time since 2005-06 after a loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. They’ll look to rebound when they host the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

After two poor showings out of his group, Sharks’ head coach Peter DeBoer is looking for any sort of chemistry on his lines. He has experimented with different combinations at practice this week, including the move of Tomas Hertl to left wing with Couture at center and Boedker on the right. In addition, defenseman Paul Martin’s status for tonight’s game is questionable after he left Tuesday’s practice with an injury. This might make way for Tim Heed to make his season debut. Things will look quite different on the San Jose end.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres enter the Shark Tank for the only time this season in search of their first win. They are 0-2-1 and have allowed six goals in each of their last two games. Evander Kane has been one of the lone bright spots in the lineup, scoring six points in his first three games. This upcoming west coast trip is an opportunity for this young club to boost themselves back up in the standings.

With four days off, the Sharks should be plenty rested and ready to take on Buffalo. If the final line combinations click and Jones’ game is much better, the Sharks have a great chance to win their first game of the season.
