Sharks vs Canadiens preview: It’s time to step it up

Tonight is a game with two struggling teams looking to get back into the win column. The seventh place Pacific division San Jose Sharks will play host to the seventh place Atlantic division Montreal Canadiens in a battle of the basement teams.

The Sharks are coming off one of their better games of the season, despite the 3-1 loss, after tallying 41 shots against the Islanders, whereas the Canadiens are also coming off one of their better games in a 4-3 overtime thriller loss to the Leafs.

This game is huge for the Sharks, after a poor 1-3-0 start to the season, the Sharks need these points and what better way to get them then with a team who has scored only nine goals in five games.

The only bad news for the Sharks is that Jonathan Drouin and Alex Galchenyuk both scored their first goals of the season last game and if they both find their footing, well, watch out, the rest of the NHL.

The Canadiens have a full healthy lineup with Jonathan Drouin, Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher rounding out their first line. The Sharks are all healthy except for Paul Martin, who will miss tonight’s game with an ankle injury. They’re hoping the leading-scorer, Kevin Labanc, can keep up his hot start.

Carey Price will mind the net for the Canadiens, and Martin Jones will be between the pipes for the Sharks.

The Sharks will look to end their home stand on a high note against the Canadiens and build some momentum heading on into their East Coast road-trip.
