Scoreboard Watching, And What The Hell, Sweden-Finland Front Page Open Thread

James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail has his interpretation on how the seedings are shaping up heading into the final game of group play. Sweden, Finland, and the United States all have a shot for the one seed, and from where I’m sitting (on my couch, I should add) it looks like Finland nabs it with a regulation win, and Sweden does so with a 6+ goal win.

Any type of overtime game tonight secures a first seed for the United States.

Here is how the first round of elimination games are shaping up:

Elimination Games

Tuesday Winner Plays
#5 Sweden/Czech Republic vs. #12 Latvia #4 Seed
#6 Canada vs. #11 Germany Russia
#7 Slovakia vs. #10 Norway #2 Seed
#8 Switzerland vs. #9 Belarus #1 Seed

If Canada manages to get past Thomas Greiss and Team Germany they would face Russia in the quarterfinals, leaving one of the countries out of the medal round. Pretty stunning considering that was expected to be the the Gold medal game.

The United States can do no worse than a two seed; their potential quarterfinal opponents are Slovakia, Norway, Switzerland, Belarus.

Enjoy the game tonight folks.

Go USA.
