Head-to-head scoring chances

201314g14_h2h

  • By the scoring chances, this was as lopsided a game as the Sharks have played all season. Administering a 24-7 shellacking (including a 17-4 edge at evens) against any team is a rare feat but against a team playing as well as the Coyotes have of late is particularly impressive. If it weren’t for the play of the goaltenders in this one, San Jose probably would have won handily.
  • Given the one-sided nature of the totals, it’s hard to glean all that much from the on-ice numbers. Essentially everyone, apart from the Vlasic/Braun pairing for once, comes out looking golden. Even Martin Havlat looks much better here than the shot data and eye test suggested.
  • Scott Hannan and Jason Demers have been a surprisingly steady third pairing for almost the entire season and this was certainly one of their best games yet.
