Head-to-head scoring chances
- Somehow, the Sharks' three-minute never-expiring power play resulting from the Dustin Brown major for kneeing was their worst of the night, producing just one scoring chance and, that too, off the stick of James Sheppard. They were much better on their power play opportunities later in the game but, by that point, it didn't matter and Martin Jones stonewalled them anyway.
- The scoring chances paint a decidedly brighter picture of the Marleau/Couture/Havlat line's performance against the Anze Kopitar unit than the shot attempts do. What's clear is that trio is capable of generating a lot of even-strength offense together and I think the coaching staff should stick with them even as the rest of the lineup gets a makeover in light of Tomas Hertl's injury.
- San Jose's bottom six was just about worthless in this game. When two of your lines don't show up and another one is rocked by injury, you just don't have much of a chance against a deep Los Angeles team.
