Sharks acquire Martin Jones from Boston

Being the only team left in the NHL without a starting goalie after a draft weekend that saw seven netminders change jerseys seems to have worked out pretty well for the Sharks after all. They've acquired 6'4" 25-year-old goaltender Martin Jones from the Bruins, who was one of the goalies moved this weekend from Los Angeles to Boston in the Milan Lucic trade. The Kings reportedly included him in the deal to ensure the promising young goalie would stay out of the Western Conference. He's now back in the Pacific Division, playing for their biggest rivals. Suck it, Dean Lombardi.

There's way more to like about Jones than his presence on the Sharks roster pissing off the Kings, though. He was arguably the best long-term option in net realistically available this offseason, including Cam Talbot. Jones has posted an impressive .921 career SV% over nearly 5000 AHL shots with the Manchester Monarchs. That's comparable to watch former Kings prospect Jonathan Bernier, now a starter with the Maple Leafs, accomplished in Manchester. Jones also burst onto the scene with the Kings in 2013-14 by winning his first eight NHL games, recording shutouts in three of them. Even after a somewhat disappointing 2014-15, he still retains a career .923 SV% over 34 NHL appearances.

The return is still unknown although ESPN reports it'll be a pick and prospect headed Boston's way. We'll update this post when that goes public.

UPDATE: Looks like it's a 2016 first rounder and Sean Kuraly going the other way:

That's a steep price to pay but given what Buffalo gave up for Robin Lehner, a first-rounder is the going rate for a young goalie with a strong AHL track record. The next step will be signing Jones, an RFA, to a contract.
