The San Jose Sharks have made a pair of moves in the last 24-48 hours. On Wednesday, the team traded forward Justin Bailey for forward Pavol Regenda. Both are AHL players, though Regenda is four years younger than Bailey.
Regenda is 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He has 16 points (4 G, 12 A) in 36 games with the San Diego Gulls this season. He has 19 career NHL games and three points in those games. He signed with the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent on June 1, 2022. Regenda will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
Meantime, Bailey has 14 points (7 G, 7 A) for the San Jose Barracuda this season. While he played for the Sharks in 59 games last season, he has not made his way to the NHL this year. He has a career 141 NHL games and has 23 points over that span.
Sharks claim Walker Duehr off waivers
The Sharks also claimed forward Walker Duehr off of waivers on Wednesday. The 27-year-old forward is listed as 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, fitting with the size General Manager Mike Grier seems to prefer in his forwards.
Duehr played in 16 games for the Calgary Flames this season and has one assist. He also played in 40 games with the Flames last season. He has 19 points (9 G, 10 A) in 84 career NHL games.

According to Evolving-Hockey’s regularized-adjusted plus-minus chart from 2022-2025, Duehr is okay as a player. There’s nothing truly exceptional about his play, and he has very little time on the power play. That said, the team picked him up for a reason.

It’s because he plays with grit.
He played with grit on his first night in teal, scoring a goal when the team went down 3-0 against the Nashville Predators last night.

Don’t sleep on this pickup by General Manager Mike Grier. Duehr, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and has a very easy to swallow cap hit of $825,000, could be another one of those trade deadline pieces that Grier shops.
Grier has turned waiver wire picks into assets for the Sharks, including Mikey Eyssimont and Ty Emberson.
