Sharks assign defense prospect Julius Bergman to Worcester

The 6'1", 190-pound Swedish blueliner should provide the AHL club with some blueline depth.

With his London Knights team eliminated from the OHL playoffs, the Sharks have assigned 19-year-old defense prospect Julius Bergman to Worcester. A slick puck-moving defenseman from Sweden, Bergman should provide the team's AHL affiliate with some depth on the blueline as they continue their push to qualify for the Calder Cup playoffs.

Bergman was one of the Sharks' several 2014 picks to have excellent post-draft seasons in the CHL this year. Playing for a stacked Knights club in his first full season on North American ice, Bergman scored 13 goals and 42 points in 60 regular season games before adding four goals and six points in ten playoff contests. He also represented Team Sweden in the World Junior Championships, tallying one assist in seven games en route to a fourth-place finish.

Bergman's contract with the Knights was thought to have been a one-year commitment; he'll likely play for the Barracuda or return to Sweden next season. San Jose signed him to an entry-level contract back in September.
