The San Jose Sharks will have to have short memories, putting aside the 5-2 loss in Dallas last night so they can take on the St. Louis Blues tonight. There will be lineup changes for the Sharks since this is the second night of back-to-back games.
Look for Yaroslav Askarov to make his debut in a Sharks jersey tonight. While the netminder already has his first NHL win, you can bet the boys will all be pulling for him to get that first one in teal.
There will also be a change on the Macklin Celebrini line. As expected, Will Smith will miss tonight’s game for a development day. The Sharks have been pretty consistent about sitting out Will Smith on one of the games when they’re back-to-back. Givani Smith is likely to draw in with Will Smith sitting.
The Blues haven’t played since Tuesday night since the team lost to the Minnesota Wild 4-2. St. Louis has struggled since losing Robert Thomas to injury. The good news for the Blues is that Thomas is back. He had his first game back from injury in the loss to Minnesota.
That said, there are still injuries to contend with for the Blues. Torrey Krug is still out with an ankle injury. Then there’s Philip Broberg and Nick Leddy, who were added to the injured reserve list earlier this month. The Blues simply aren’t a deep enough at this time to handle a large amount of key player losses.
In 9 games this November, the Blues have earned just 7 of a possible 18 points. The team has been outscored 35-21 in that span.
The Blues’ top scorer is Jordan Kyrou, who has 17 points in 20 games this season. Jake Neighbours leads the team with six goals. Only three players, Neighbours, Pavel Buchnevich and Kyrou have five or more goals this season.
In net for the Blues, Jordan Binnington and Joel Hofer are struggling. Binnington is 5-8-1 with a 3.19 goals against average and .887 save percentage. Hofer is 3-3-0 with a 3.45 goals against average and .893 save percentage.
These teams have met once before this season, on opening night. The Sharks lost 5-4 in overtime.
