The San Jose Sharks are hoping to snap a five-game losing streak today with a visit to the St. Louis Blues. This is the second of three meetings between the two teams. The Sharks lost the last bout, a 3-2 loss in overtime on March 6 in San Jose. They’ll play once more in San Jose on March 30.
The Blues are seventh in the Central Division, but have been doing better over the last week and a half than the Sharks. The team is 3-1-1 in its last five games and just a point behind San Jose in the standings.
St. Louis will be without its top scorer, Robert Thomas, who is considered day-to-day. He has 46 points this season. Jordan Kyrou leads the Blues with 17 goals, though there are three different players with 16 goals apiece — Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich and Jimmy Snuggerud.
Joel Hofer and Jordan Binnington have split time in the net this season. Hofer has the better record, 18-11-5 with a .910 save percentage. Binnington is 11-19-6 with a .872 save percentage.
San Jose Sharks lines today
We’re going to do our best to guess at the lines because there are going to be some game time decisions. San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng reports that Igor Chernyshov will play. Tyler Toffoli is in town, but he’s one of those game time decisions. Yaroslav Askarov is expected to start for the first time since his injury.
We’ll guess at some of the other things. They’re turning things over to the kids, so Sam Dickinson is in, even though he had a very tough time in Nashville. Let’s hope the coaching staff sat him down and talked him through some stuff on the ride to St. Louis.
Up front, let’s assume that Toffoli is in because the team wants to win, even if it would be better if the Sharks got a lottery pick instead of a playoff spot. We’ll keep the top line. Add Toff to the third line and call it a day.
