The San Jose Sharks continue what is arguably the team’s most important extended road trip of the season this afternoon with a stop in Boston to play the Bruins. The Sharks need points on this road trip if the team wants to stay in the playoff hunt and it’s not getting easier as the group gets ready to play the gritty Bruins for game two. San Jose was humbled in Buffalo on Tuesday, seeing just how far the players need to come if they’re looking to be among the league’s more competitive teams moving forward. Now, the players not named Macklin Celebrini will need to dig deep to see if they can find that next level as the games get tougher.
The last time these two teams met was Nov. 23, when the Sharks won 3-1. Here’s to hoping the team can find similar magic tonight.
David Pasternak remains the Bruins’ top scorer with 76 points. Morgan Geekie leads the team with 34 goals. Swayman is 25-13-3 with a .906 save percentage.
The Bruins are fifth in the Atlantic Division but currently hold the second spot in the Eastern Conference wild card race, so the team is very much scrapping for points, like the Sharks are.
San Jose Sharks lines today
For the Sharks, William Eklund is a game time decision. He’s a bit banged up. Eklund says he’s good to go, the coach says we’ll see. The team has called up Igor Chernyshov just in case though whether he’ll make it to Boston in time is yet to be seen.
San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng also reports that goaltender Yaroslav Askarov was not on the ice this morning. He may not even be okay to back up today. If that’s the case, then no word yet on who will serve as backup for the Sharks.
Update: The Sharks have signed Goaltender Kyle Chauvette from the University of New Hampshire to an amateur tryout to backup Alex Nedeljkovic because Yaroslav Askarov is too injured to backup tonight. Chauvette is 24 years old, 13-19-1 with a .902 save percentage this season.

According to NHL.com, Jeremy Swayman will start in the net for the Bruins. Charlie McAvoy is expected to play, even though he left the game with a bloody mouth on Tuesday. He did return to score the overtime winner and it seems like he’s no worse for the wear today.
