The San Jose Sharks resume play tonight to start the team’s longest road trip of the season. Seven games over the next two weeks that take the Sharks through five of the six teams in Canada. Things start off with the Calgary Flames.
The Flames lost three in a row headed into the Four Nations’ break and now sit in fifth place in the Pacific Division. Calgary is just outside of the wild card picture, with 60 points in 55 games. Just below the Flames in the second wild card spot in the Western Conference is the Vancouver Canucks, with 63 points in 56 games. Colorado is holding on to the first wild card spot with 68 points in 58 games.
One of the big stories for the Flames is the play of Dustin Wolf. In his first full season in the NHL, Wolf has a 19-11-3 record with 2.63 goals against and a .912 save percentage. Wolf is one of the reasons the Flames are in the playoff race at all and he is in contention for the Calder Trophy race with Sharks’ rookie Macklin Celebrini.
Jonathan Huberdeau leads the Flames with 41 points in 55 games. He also leads the team with 21 goals. Just behind Huberdeau is Nazem Kadri with 40 points in 55 games and 19 goals.
The Flames could see the return of Connor Zary and Kevin Bahl tonight. Both players missed significant time with injuries.
