The San Jose Sharks are in Calgary to play the Flames today and have a familiar face taking line rushes with the team. Thomas Bordeleau was called up on Saturday and will get the chance to play tonight. This is Bordeleau’s first callup of the season after playing 27 games with the Sharks last season. Bordeleau is sixth on the Barracuda in scoring this season, though he hasn’t registered a point with the team since March 23.
Bordeleau’s callup likely means that one of the current roster players is not healthy enough to play tonight. Check out the lines below to see who might be out.
The good news for Sharks fans is that we can start cheering for wins again. The Sharks have secured the 32nd spot in the NHL for the second season in a row, guaranteeing that the team will have a top three pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
A win by the Sharks tonight would have consequences for the Flames as well. Although time is running out, Calgary is still mathematically in the playoff race.
Team | Points | Games Remaining | |
Minnesota Wild | 95 | 1 | |
St. Louis Blues | 94 | 1 | |
Calgary Flames | 90 | 3 |
While the Wild and the Blues are very much in control of their own destinies — if they both win their final games, they will both secure their wild card spots because they have the tie breakers — the Flames need to win out. This is an at least push it to overtime or get eliminated game for the Flames.
These two teams last played less than a week ago on April 8 when the Flames won 3-2. It was a tough loss for the Sharks who led the game 1-0 for two periods before allowing three unanswered goals. The Flames are 3-0 in the season series.
We expect that the Sharks will face Bay Area native Dustin Wolf once again. Wolf has been the Flames’ go-to goalie down the stretch. Wolf is 27-16-8 this season and is 3-0-2 in his last five games. The goaltender and likely Calder Trophy finalist has a 2.63 goals against average and .909 save percentage.
