The San Jose Sharks want to and need to prove they’re better than they were last season. One of the ways they can do that is to win game nine against the Vegas Golden Knights. Last season, it took the team 11 games to get the first win of the season, tonight, they can do it two games better.
This isn’t one of those toss up games like the bout with the Anaheim Ducks or the Chicago Blackhawks. The Golden Knights continue to be a good team. Vegas is second in the Pacific Division with a 5-2-1 record and the team is having no trouble scoring. Mark Stone seems to be healthy. He’s second in the league in scoring with 14 points. Jack Eichel is close behind with 13 points and Ivan Barbashev has 11 points. Barbashev is tied for third in the league with seven goals.
This is the first time that Tomas Hertl will face the Sharks while wearing black and gold. Hertl has eight points in eight games, evenly split with four goals and four assists.
While Adin Hill is considered the number one goaltender for the Golden Knights, he’s being outperformed by backup Ilya Samsonov. Samsonov is 2-0-0 this season with a .944 save percentage. Meantime, Hill is 3-2-0 with a .864 save percentage.
According to SinBin.Vegas on Twitter, it will be Samsonov in the net tonight.
Finally, Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore has a shiny new contract. The 29-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, but the two sides avoided any issues by agreeing to a seven year deal at a cap hit of $7.425 million per season.
