Sharks at Kraken (game 54): Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks take a quick trip to Seattle today after a bit of rest and relaxation. The players had a chance to hang out with their dads and mentors as part of an annual team tradition. The group had dinner together last night and are preparing together for tonight’s game against the Kraken.

The dads and other mentors will be at Climate Pledge Arena to watch the game.

The Sharks and the Kraken have met twice this season and the Sharks came out on top in both games. There was the 8-5 barn burner on Nov. 29 that was quickly followed by the 4-2 win in Seattle the next night. The Sharks hope some of that magic returns tonight.

That said, the Kraken are a different team than the one that took the ice on Nov. 30. For one thing, Seattle added some firepower. On Dec. 18, 2024, the Kraken traded defenseman Will Borgen and two draft picks to the New York Rangers for Kaapo Kakko. Since then, Kakko has been a scoring machine for Seattle.

With 15 points in 19 games playing for the Kraken, Kakko has immediately endeared himself to his new team. Seattle’s top scorer is Jared McCann, who leads the team with 39 points in 52 games. The leading goal scorer is Jaden Schwartz, with 17 goals.

In the net, the Kraken have shaken things up. The team recently put Philipp Grubauer on waivers to send him to Coachella Valley. Grubauer cleared today.

Grubauer wasn’t doing well. He was 5-15-1 before his demotion with a 3.83 goals against average and .866 save percentage. With Grubauer off of the roster, we expect to see Joey Daccord take the net against the Sharks tonight. While Daccord is 17-12-2 this season with a 2.45 goals against average and .917 save percentage, the Sharks beat him the last time these two teams played, allowing 4 goals on 23 shots.

San Jose Sharks lines tonight

San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng reports that Marc-Edouard Vlasic will play and Jack Thompson will sit. Alex Wennberg is also out with an injury, so Carl Grundstrom will play. Finally, Yaroslav Askarov is in the net.
